About

With more people being cured of or living years after a diagnosis, we are beginning to recognize the number of acute and long-term side effects of cancer and its treatment. These side effects can affect survivors during and following active therapy, then through the balance of life. In addition to these side effects, a cancer diagnosis statistically decreases an individual’s capacity to participate in routine activities and increases the risk for other diseases such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, obesity, emotional problems, and secondary cancers.

Currently, it is rare for cancer survivors to be encouraged to stay physically active, and individuals seeking credible information about exercise during survivorship have few resources to learn how and when to exercise safely. Aside from the risks, it is unlikely they are gaining maximal benefits from their efforts.

THEREFORE: it is our mission to improve cancer survivorship by understanding and promoting physical activity before, during and after treatment. We provide participants with the skills, knowledge and opportunities to make physical activity an ongoing and important part of their lives after cancer.
