Meet Eva Burklund, 53-year-old breast cancer survivor
Married, two sons, ages 25 & 22

Date of Diagnosis:
2004

Treatment:
Lumpectomy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy

Cancer was difficult because:
Chemotherapy was the worst.

Good things to come out of my illness:
I felt very loved, which inspired me to be more helpful to others who are going through illness. I was not afraid and had lots of faith, had so much support from others.

Most important pieces of advice for someone diagnosed with cancer:
1) surround yourself with positive people
2) try to keep your life as normal as you can, continue your activities if possible
3) pray – I found lots of comfort through prayer

Why I joined MoveThroughCancer:
My brother, Trey, had cancer two years before I was diagnosed and when I saw Marion’s article in the paper, we decided to walk together.

How MoveThroughCancer changed my life:
It has inspired me to exercise more often. Trey and I love to experience the Hike and Bike Trail. We’ve learned a lot by talking with others in the group. We feel comfortable asking questions because people take time to talk. I am moving onto the next MTC training class.
